What is ultrasound imaging?

Ultrasound technology uses high frequency sound waves. The waves bounce off tissue and return to the ultrasound machine at different frequencies, depending on the density of the tissue. Our ultrasound machine is the GE Voluson 730 Expert, a state of the art machine that translates the returning sound waves into images for viewing on its computer monitor. Miracle In Progress 3D and 4D Ultrasound studio's machine is an FDA approved ultrasound machine.

What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 3D Live and 4D?

        2D                            3D

Miracle In Progress 3D/4D Ultrasound Las Vegas

3D, 3D Live and 4D are trademarked terminology, used by competing ultrasound manufacturers to attempt to distinguish their products from their competition. The technology is the same. It is safe, reliable and will provide wonderful pictures for you and your family.

2D ultrasounds are the traditional black & white ultrasounds you have probably seen before. The pictures show the skeletal structure (outline) of the baby. You also get to see the baby moving! This is the type of ultrasound that was probably used for your diagnostic ultrasound. It is still the best technology for gathering measurements of the baby and ensuring that the baby is developing as expected.

3D shows the tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures. We can see the roundness of the baby's face, the shape of the nose and the contours of the lips. The color is actually not the color of the baby, it is computer enhanced to make the pictures more appealing. We can show the baby in sepia, blue, green, or red.

4D live is the same technology. With this technology you can see the motion of the baby. Some companies call it 3D Live and some call it 4D Live. If your baby has a large, clear pocket of amniotic fluid around the face, is moving about and is developed enough, then we can get great clips of motion (4D live). The 4D live clips are typically only a few minutes.

Is it safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?

Ultrasounds have been used and performed for well over 30 years.  Many extensive studies over that time period have shown that ultrasounds are not known to cause any harm to mother or baby. Ultrasounds are a routine procedure that are used all over the country, especially in infertility clinics that specialize in high risk pregnancies.  3D/4D ultrasound is utliized because of the benefit of the clear picture and the fact that it is safe to use.  3D/4D ultrasounds use the exact same type and intensity of ultrasound that is used in conventional 2D scanning.

Why should I choose your facility?

At Miracle In Progress, we make it our number one priority to give you the absolute best pictures we can.  We go above and beyond to do what we can to ensure you are happy.  We often hear, "Thank you for being so patient."  We know that not all babies cooperate right away, so we have different things we can try to make it work.  We want you to have a great experience, that is what is most important.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor's office?

No. Women coming to Miracle In Progress 3D / 4D Ultrasound Studio in Las Vegas for an ultrasound must already be receiving prenatal care from a healthcare provider.  In addition to that care, they must have already undergone a medical, diagnostic ultrasound ordered by their provider to confirm their due date, screen for fetal anomalies, and to look for any other pregnancy related issues. The ultrasound we perform includes limited information such as the heartbeat, the number of babies, location within the placenta and the position of the baby. At no time should this ultrasound be used as a substitute for a complete diagnostic ultrasound.

What’s the best time in the pregnancy for an ultrasound?

Miracle In Progress can perform an ultrasound at any time during the pregnancy, but the best 3D/4D imaging results are generally acquired between 25 and 30 weeks. We recommend 27 or 28 weeks, if at all possible. Very late in the pregnancy, the baby gets very crowded and it is difficult to view the face.

What kind of baby activity will I see?

It depends. Some babies sleep right through the ultrasound and move very little. Others show off by touching their faces, sucking their thumb, swallowing amniotic fluid, waving arms and legs and more.

When will I receive the photos and video?

All your keepsake items will be ready for you to take with you! The DVD is a video and audio recording of the entire ultrasound session. We film the entire session so you don't miss anything. We want you to get to see the baby yawn, stretch and hiccup!

Can you tell the gender of the baby?

We are happy to check gender, and this service is included in all of our packages. We prefer to check gender after the baby reaches 15 weeks. Gender determination cannot be guaranteed, however, since we must rely on the cooperation of the baby and several other factors outside our control. But, if you are at least 16 weeks along and we can't tell the baby's gender, we will bring you back for free!

Do I need to have a full bladder for the appointment?

No, you do not have to have a full bladder during the session, but the more hydrated your body is, the more transparent the amniotic fluid and the clearer the pictures. Being well hydrated can greatly improve the clarity of the 3D/4D pictures.

Will the photographs be in color?

Yes, the 3D Ultrasound and 4D Ultrasound pictures are computer enhanced to bring out the features of the image.  Photographs of any 2D imaging are available only in black and white.

Will my insurance pay for my appointment?

No, Miracle In Progress' elective ultrasounds are not based on medical necessity. They are for entertainment purposes only. This is not to be used as a substitute for doctor's care.

Why do some people get better pictures than others?

Clear, focused photos depend on many things. Two main factors in quality are fetal cooperation and maternal tissue thickness. Sometimes babies insist on hiding their faces behind their hands or on keeping their faces pressed up against the side of the wall. This positioning makes it difficult to get a good photo of the baby's face, although we can usually take nice profile pictures. If the mother's tissue is thick, or if the fluid around the baby is opaque, the clarity of the pictures can suffer somewhat. We can adjust our machine to offset these factors, but the photos may still not be as high a quality as others from more optimum situations.
